Automation and Controls Specialist

Canadian Natural Resources Limited

This is a Contract position in Fort Mcmurray, AB posted March 17, 2023.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Automation & Controls Team Lead, the Automation & Control Specialist will provide technical solutions to maintain the integrity and reliability of the control system (PLC’s, DCS and SIS) at our Horizon site.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide solutions to significant technical issues, especially regarding hardware failures, control strategies, issues
  • Monitor system related issues on the Distributed Control System (DCS) or Safety Instrumented System (SIS)
  • Maintain overall control system/safety system network architecture
  • Interface with outside stakeholders on issues regarding the control systems
  • Provides technical solutions on interface requirements to third party systems
  • Ability to collaborate within a cross-sectional team with varied skills and backgrounds to drive improvement. Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Independently analyzes complex problems by communicating with leaders, employees and customers. Works with engineers to create/review/modify control philosophies/narratives for oil and gas equipment

Other Details:

  • Job location: Horizon Project site north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 4×3 – Monday through Thursday, 10 hours/day
  • Eligible for relocation to Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray, Alberta pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy
  • Company-sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design, configuration and trouble shooting in a controls systems environment
  • Emerson Delta V DCS is required and/or Triconex SIS experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to safety instrumented system design engineering operation and maintenance like IEC61511, ISA84.00
  • Knowledge of Control Systems Virtualization infrastructure and Cyber security will be an added advantage
