Mine Planning Engineering Lead

Canadian Natural Resources Limited

This is a Contract position in Fort Mcmurray, AB posted March 14, 2023.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Lead Engineer, Mine Engineering, you will support the evaluation, development, execution, and compliance of both weekly and daily mine production plans through collaboration with CNRL Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, and other Mine Engineering groups. You will also have a role in supporting other business unit projects providing technical and operational support.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the planning engineers and EITs in the Short Range Planning group, ensuring the use of sound engineering practices in the development of all daily and weekly mine plans
  • Provide guidance and leadership in the development of the weekly and daily mine plans
  • Administer existing tracking systems to ensure compliance with plans and develop new or alternate plans as the need arises
  • Develop, review and get approval for the daily Mine Operations engineering plan
  • Work closely with all levels of Mine Operations leadership (Manager, Superintendents, General Foreman) in the execution of the weekly and daily mine plans
  • Liaise with mid range planning engineers to ensure alignment between mid range and short range mine plans
  • Communicate with personnel in the mine’s Geotechnical and Geology department as required to ensure all relevant planning parameters are incorporated into weekly and daily
  • Maintain presence in the mine frequently to ensure the plans reflect actual field conditions and operational set-ups

Other Details:

  • Job location: Horizon Project site north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 4×3 – Monday through Thursday, ten hours per day
  • Eligible for relocation to Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray, Alberta pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy
  • Company-sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in mining is required, with preference to be given to those candidates with experience working in an open-pit mining environment
  • a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from an accredited university program
  • registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA is required
  • a proven track record of relevant engineering experience
  • proficient with Microsoft Office and compatible mine design software
  • experience in the leadership of technical personnel
