The Opportunity:

Canadian Natural Resources is seeking a Reliability Engineer with a strong focus on data analytics and reporting to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of our mobile equipment fleet through effective monitoring, analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs), and the creation and distribution of comprehensive maintenance reports. Your expertise in mobile equipment maintenance, data analysis, and reporting will contribute to optimizing our maintenance strategies and driving operational efficiency.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive set of maintenance KPIs specific to mobile equipment, including but not limited to availability, downtime, mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Monitor mobile equipment KPIs on an ongoing basis, identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies
  • Create detailed and actionable maintenance reports, highlighting KPI trends, equipment performance, failure modes, bad actors and other key findings
  • Present maintenance reports and findings to management and other stakeholders, providing recommendations for optimizing mobile equipment reliability and maintenance strategies
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance technicians, engineers, and data analysts, to drive continuous improvement initiatives based on the insights gained from KPI analysis

Other Details:

  • Job location: Horizon Oil Sands – Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 8 day on, 6 days off, 10 hour days, Tuesday – Tuesday
  • Eligible for relocation to Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray
  • Company sponsored fly-in/fly-out program from Calgary or Edmonton and camp facilities

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field, registered with APEGA
  • Proven experience as a Reliability Engineer or Maintenance Engineer in the mobile equipment industry
  • Strong knowledge of mobile equipment maintenance practices, failure modes, and reliability concepts
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau) and query tools (SQL, Oracle) to effectively analyze and present maintenance data
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and their data structures, preferably in the context of mobile equipment maintenance. Experience with Maximo asset management software would be an asset
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data sets
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a drive to optimize mobile equipment reliability and maintenance strategies
