Job Posting –Data Technician – Analytical Chemistry Wood Buffalo Environmental AssociationThe Wood Buffalo Environmental Association (WBEA) monitors the environment of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in north-eastern Alberta. Our environmental monitoring work is the most integrated and intensive focus on air and terrestrial monitoring in any one area, anywhere in Canada. The WBEA is committed to reporting accurate and timely high-quality data from our Ambient Air Monitoring (AAM), Deposition (DEP), and Community Odour Monitoring (OMP) Programs to ensure regional stakeholders have the information they need to make informed environmental decisions. The RoleThe WBEA is currently seeking a full-time Data Technician – Analytical Chemistry (Data Technician). The Data Technician is integral to reporting high quality data to scientists, policymakers, government agencies, WBEA members and other stakeholders who use WBEA data. The Data Technician is responsible for ensuring that the WBEA data meets the criteria of completeness and quality defined in the Alberta Air  Monitoring Directive (2016, as amended), and other requirements contained under other applicable provincial and national directives and protocols. This position is required to work with multiple data management systems and requires a broad understanding of analytical chemistry to perform statistical analyses and interpret and report on analytical chemistry data. Position ResponsibilitiesAs a part of the WBEA Data Team, reporting to the Operations Manager, you will: * Receive, manage, and store analytical results from Labs* Review and process laboratory results for Level 2 QA/QC and review and analysis of Lab Quality Control measurements, calculation of final reported values, method detection limits and reporting precision* Investigate, validate, and incorporate Level 2 QA/QC feedback & results into analytical results database* Compile monthly report for Level 3 Review* Investigate & incorporate Level 3 feedback and dissemination of reports to WBEA Stakeholders* Provide data requests to WBEA, members, regulatory agencies, and researchers* Provide support to WBEA Data Team, Science Advisors and Analytical Services in addressing analytical data, analytical standard operating procedures, and methods.* Support the Data Team in reviewing and validating the WBEA’s continuous air monitoring data, including:               ** Reviewing and validating data** Compiling Monthly & Annual reports** Validation of Alberta Ambient Air Quality Objectives exceedances,** Updating the WBEA Air Quality Events database* Collaborate with the rest of the Data Team regarding reporting, data requests, Air Quality Event and KPI tracking, and data uploads to and the AEP Airdata warehouse* Communicate data concerns with the Operations Manager and other WBEA staff to resolve issues Qualifications* Have post-secondary degree in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Atmospheric science, or a similar field* Have 2-3 years of experience reviewing data and performing data validation* Have experience with lab-based quality control programs and laboratory information technology systems* Experience with statistical analysis, trend analysis, and report writing is an asset* Experience working with analytical data from Inductively Coupled Plasma, Ion chromatography, Gas Chromatography, X-Ray Fluorescence, and gravimetric techniques is an asset* Ability to work independently, but communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment* Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues under pressure* Strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail and to:** Carry out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to perform data validation** Be able to work in a fast-paced environment** Be able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities accordingly** Work with minimal supervision and take initiative* Demonstrated aptitude for self-learning and technological skillsSchedule:  Full-time, 40 hours per week at eight (8) hours per day from Monday to Friday.
