The Opportunity:
We have an amazing opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Team Lead to join our Albian Plant Maintenance Team. As a MTL, you will work together with staff from across the organization to ensure cross-functional teams associated with your business unit are aligned and creating value. Internal groups will include but not be limited to Bitumen Production Operations Team, Maintenance Team, Reliability Team, Asset Integrity Team, and Finance. This position reports to the Operations Lead.
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensuring Environment, Health & Safety and Integrity are a top priority, and completing all work with a safety conscious attitude
- Run daily morning tool box & end of shift tool box meetings with team. Hold monthly safety meetings with short presentations as required
- Champion the use of Canadian Natural’s Safety Management System tools such as FLHA’s, Hazard ID’s and WSO’s to lower risk and prevent incidents
- Participate in and promote 4DX, lead WIG meetings, and promote LSS projects and processes
- Communicate with MC & OC on plant upsets, daily issues, etc. React to and manage plant & maintenance issues on a daily basis
- Prioritize with Maintenance Coordinator regarding break-in work as it affects the schedule (execution of the schedule). Acts as the one point of contact for this with the Maintenance Coordinator as to what needs to be done
- Process emergency / break-in work orders
- Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and manage all deviations to the frozen schedule
- Proactive approach to all jobs to ensure the team is set up for success, walk jobs down to understand the scope
- Hand out jobs on a daily basis, Allocating resources of labor and equipment to enable tasks to be completed as planned. Do site visits to make sure tasks are performed safely, with quality, on time and on budget
- Visible leadership in the field providing direction, monitoring work, and improving work activities
- Know and comply with all regulations and legislative requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the Province of Alberta and environmental standards
- Monitor crew training requirements and make sure they are up to date
- Identify training gaps and assist in implementing training that is required for the maintenance crew
- Treat fellow team members with respect and demand excellence in their performance
- Be an active performance coach and consistently provide positive and constructive feedback. Discipline when necessary and deal with crew personnel issues
- Deal with safety concerns identified by team members
- Ensure all safety documentation is completed for all personnel working in the facility under your care
- Ensure team members review, understand and fully utilize Canadian Naturals safety and operational procedures and standards in performing all facets of work
- Participate in review, modifications or development of maintenance procedures
- Act up for MC when they are away or unavailable
- Manage employee time in “Kronos”
- In collaboration with the on-shift Safety Compliance Coordinator, report, document and investigate all incidents and near misses in the work areaAttend weekly area housekeeping tours with operations
- Complete WO’s in Maximo & enter relevant history
- Enter work orders for deficiencies that need to be repaired
- Ensure effective inter-field communication and cooperation is achieved by:
- Ensuring effective load levelling of resources
- Sharing technical and safety learnings
- Ensuring consistency in guidelines and procedures

- Job location: Albian Oil Sands – Fort McMurray, Alberta
- Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off – (Tuesday to Monday)

Skills & Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with plant maintenance a with a minimum Grade 12 or GED is required
- 5 + years of Supervisory experience
- Journeyman Certification and/or a Technology Diploma is an asset
- CMMS understanding and knowledge of Maximo
- Self-starter that works well in a high paced team environment with a continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to work in an outside environment, at heights, climbing ladders and work in and around confined spaces
