Shovels Shift Team Lead, Mine Maintenance

This is a Contract position in Fort Mcmurray, AB posted May 12, 2022.

The Opportunity:

Are you a seasoned Heavy Equipment Shovel Technician looking to take your career to the next level and advance your leadership skill set? You will be responsible for mentoring and directing the day to day activities of the Mine Maintenance Shovel crew, while continuously supporting and contributing to Canadian Natural’s Maintenance department goals and objectives. Your strong work ethic and passion for ongoing coaching will contribute to your success in this role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in performance management to develop your team both as a group and individually. Implement initiatives for team motivation and improved productivity as well as monitoring KPI’s (Key Performance Indicator)
  • Champion company safety initiatives and promote a safety culture amongst maintenance crews
  • Participate in safety meetings, employee reviews, evaluations of equipment problems and field trouble shooting
  • Monitor progression of the team throughout the shift to resolve problems, challenges, issues and performance accountability
  • Identify, secure and maximize resources required for planned tasks, such as parts, equipment, materials, special tools, work procedures, external resources, and documents
  • Advise and support clerical staff with data entry, maintaining the backlog system, issuing work orders (including service and preventative) and work order management

Other Details:

  • Job Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Albian Oil Sands site
  • Eligible for relocation to Fort McMurray
  • Company sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton
  • Shift schedule: 7 day on, 7 off, 7 nights on, 7 days off (12 hour shifts)
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Typically 10+ years of related experience, including 3-5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience as a maintenance Lead Hand or Acting Tech
  • Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyman Certificate in Alberta and/or an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate, or related Technical Diploma
  • Familiarity with and understanding of electric mining shovels and hydraulic mining shovels
